MATT CHAZANO, NEW RADIO VOICE OF THE WOLFPACK, PINCH HITS FOR KEVIN KEATTS AT OPENING MEETING, SEPTEMBER 4

Given just 24 hours' notice of Coach Keatts requirement to be out of town instead of speaking at our opening meeting, our Club Vice President, Sally Greaser, hit a home run with an outstanding presentation from Matt Chazano who got the big crowd pumped up for the new season. Coach Keatts apologized for needing to cancel and promised to speak at a future meeting this season when schedules permit. You wouldn't have suspected that Matt was the new radio voice of the Wolfpack, following the long career of Gary Hahn. He has done his homework and knows the teams, players, coaches, and schedules very well. Matt, in his resonant radio voice, told of his education, his career, his family and his love for sports. He used no notes to provide thoughtful insights on the many challenges facing college athletics and the Wolfpack before answering a variety of good questions from our packed audience. If you haven't yet registered for the new Raleigh Sports Club season, please know that annual membership dues remain at $100 per person and weekly attendance for members is still $20 (guests for $25) and apply whether eating lunch or not. We continue to meet at Bradley Hall in the Highland United Methodist Church, 1901 Ridge Road, and the buffet line opens at 11:30 AM. You can save time by mailing your membership dues (check made out to Raleigh Sports Club) to PO Box 10275, Raleigh, NC 27605. The second meeting of this season, September 11, will feature Marissa Young, the head coach of Duke Women's Softball fresh off their outstanding ACC championship season (52-9 overall record, 20-4 in ACC). Be sure to come early to get a great seat and enjoy the good eats!

BANQUET HELD APRIL 3, 2024 CELEBRATED THE 60th ANNIVERSARY OF THE RALEIGH SPORTS CLUB!

The 2023-24 season wrapped up again with a gala banquet at the North Ridge Country Club. Our 60th anniversary was made even more sweet by the achievement of both the Wolfpack men and women’s basketball teams reaching Final Four status along with successful campaigns by the Tar Heel and Blue Devil teams. And, it was not long since the NC State football team wrapped up another outstanding season making it fitting that our banquet speaker was Grant Gibson, a former captain and All ACC performer for the Wolfpack squad.

A wonderful feature of each banquet is the opportunity to celebrate and recognize four talented local student-athletes and one Wake County high school coach. As in past years, we honored the very deserving local high school student athletes each with a $2,000.00 scholarship and we recognized the outstanding Wake County High School Coach with an honorarium of $1,000.00.
